Having health and fitness goals are important for everyone. Whether your goal is to lose weight, to improve your endurance, change your body physique, build lean muscle or improve a health condition, establishing goals is necessary in order to succeed. Once you have established your goals, what does it take to meet those goals? Achieving your fitness goals takes patience and perseverance; patience to see it through and perseverance to stay the course!
Now, most of us live busy and hectic lives which is why sticking to an eating and exercise plan is imperative. Sticking to your plan is especially difficult during times of stress or hardship. Do you know what stress does to your body and how the harmful effects of stress can interfere with your fitness goals? Stress releases the hormones cortisol and adrenaline into your body, which can cause your body to hold on to fat and make it very difficult to see results. But, never fear, The HIIT Club is always here to point you in the right direction so you can meet your fitness goals! The following are five tips to help you reach your fitness goals:
Make Clean Eating a Habit
This is key to your success. Of course, you’re not going to have chiseled abs after only a week of dieting but we can guarantee that you will see results and have that six-pack core over tie if you fuel your body properly and stay on track.
Patience Is a Virtue
You’ve heard this proverbial phrase many times before and although it can apply to different aspects of your life, it is especially true when it comes to changing your lifestyle. It is a fact, you will have bad days, we all have them. But, you will also have good days, and accepting the good with the bad is healthy. Remember, you didn’t put weight on overnight or get out of shape from one day to another therefore, be kind to yourself and instead find a healthy outlet such as meditation, take a walk or workout.
Slow and Steady Wins The Race
Improving your health and changing your lifestyle and body is like architecture and just like in architecture, establishing a solid foundation is fundamental. This means taking care of the basic necessities first; talk to your doctor, do research, meet with a personal trainer/nutritionist and put together a realistic plan. There are tons of tools, information, tips and resources available to help you succeed. Again, remember to take it one day at a time and you will see results for sure!
Don’t Give Up When The Going Gets Tough
When you experience a bad day, when you feel discouraged or unmotivated, take action. Don’t get stuck in a funk. You always have an option, you are always in control. For example, you can use inspirational pictures and/or quotes and keep them with you where ever you go or keep them at your desk or on your fridge. You can also follow fitness trainers on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for daily motivation and tips. These visual and audio reminders are excellent to help you stay on track and not give in to temptations. There are tons of great and healthy recipes and food alternatives when you are having a specific craving such as for smoothies and protein cookies that are just as tasty and satisfying as junk food. And the best part of all of these things is that these tools are free! Remember, you are in control, don’t give up and persevere!
Set Realistic Goals
Make sure to set realistic goals. As mentioned earlier, be honest with yourself. You did not put the weight on overnight and you did not get out of shape from one day to another. With that in mind, it’s probably not a good idea to start a nutritional plan or exercise program a month before a special event or occasion. Although these can be used for motivation to lose weight or get in shape, consider it a jump start to adopt a healthier lifestyle long-term. Being healthy and fit is a lifestyle.
When it comes to improving your health or changing your body shape, it takes time and effort. There is no way around it, there are no shortcuts, it is a process and you must trust that process. This is difficult to understand and embrace because we live in a culture that expects instant gratification. The fact of the matter is that you will fail at times, and that is ok. If you slip up or overindulge from time to time, get right back to your plan the next day. Don’t beat yourself up, instead, accept it and move forward. Before committing and embarking on any nutritional or exercise program, you will need to tell yourself to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME.
